Sample Letter Of Support

The purpose of a letter of support is to convince another person that it is worth their while to give money to fund a project. This type of letter will have to be very persuasive because organizations receive several requests for funding in a single day. In order to be the one chosen to be the recipient of the funding the letter has to stand out as unique and represent the goals of the other organization.

In order to let the organization know that their goals and the ones of the person writing the letter are the same is to tell them in the very first paragraph. The introductory paragraph will explain what the project is all about. Then a couple of paragraphs should added which help the reader understand why the writer is the one seeking the funds. This is where the writer will clarify how he or she is associated with the project. For example, if the project is to research an issue and the writer is the one who will be performing the experiments then the body of the letter is where the writer will make this clear to the reader.

After the project has been described then it is customary to write a concluding paragraph. This is where the ideas on the projects worthiness and purpose can be summed up for the reader. Final thoughts and opinions added in this area help push the reader in the direction of believing that the project is a good one. The writer wants to leave the reader with a good impression so keep this in mind when ending a letter of support.

The letter of support must look like a professionally written letter. It should be aligned to the left. The date will be the first thing written and it should look like this: March 25, 2011. After double spacing the reader’s name and address appear. The writer double spaces again. Then the salutation which is generally Dear Reader comes next. Paragraphs without indentation describing the project in the manner outlined above make up the body of the letter. Double spacing leads the writer to the place where Sincerely will be typed. Enough space to place the writer’s physical signature should be left here which is generally four lines. Then place the name of the writer with his or her title underneath. This is the best style for writing a letter of support.
